IN BASKETBALL : Amos Garrett's message about the recently launched Midwest Summer Blast Tournament

"Looks good to us.

I know this league did not turn out as you would have hoped Steve; but we have enjoyed the opportunity and the girls have learned a bunch!  That is really what we were looking for.  The wins and losses did not mean much as we were simply looking for some game experience and playing the older teams gave us that.

You need to provide the referee with a big time bonus.  He is awesome!  He calls just the right amount of violations and then takes the time to explain to the girls what they did wrong.  He totally made the league in my opinion!  Please feel free to share my comments with him.

Thanks again for putting this together and like I said we enjoyed the time."

IN SOFTBALL : Coach Daryl Angran of Boone Stormers Team about the Labor Day Softball Classic Event

"I have been coaching ASA and Little League for 17 years. This is the 10th Labor Day Tournament that I have attended. The first tournament was in Manchester so I have not only seen the change of location but also the change in the way communication is between the coaches and Steve. At the beginning everything was done through snail mail now at least 95% is done with internet. When I started it was mainly local teams – it has grown to other states and now Canada!

Over the years I have brought approximately 142 girls. Out of these 85 have attended 1 year, 32-2 years, 21-3 years and 4-4years.

Some of my personal experiences have been coaching against my cousin and being in the wrong age group (luckily Steve fixed it for us). One of the most memorable was when my wife lost her wedding rings. We came back 2 days after the tournament was over and actually found them still in the grass!

I don’t get a chance to do a lot of tournaments yearly but I always make sure I make it to this tournament. Even though I don’t have any kids of my own playing softball it’s always a lot of fun and the kids enjoy it too.
